ABOUT US
Linera delivers secure, real‑time Web3 infrastructure for the agentic Internet
Linera is the first real-time blockchain infrastructure purpose-built for the agentic web—combining Web2-level scalability with the cryptographic guarantees of Web3.
Powered by microchains, Linera lets every user or app run its own chain for maximum control, speed, and security. Whether coordinating autonomous agents, powering real-time AI, or enabling portable identity, Linera is building the foundation for a fast, decentralized, user-owned future—backed by a16z crypto and Borderless Capital.

Timeline
Founding & Seed Round
Founded in 2021 by Mathieu Baudet, former researcher at Libra/Novi and co-author of the FastPay academic paper. Raised $6 MM in seed fundraising in 2022 led by a16z crypto.
Whitepaper & Research Talks
Released whitepaper in 2022. Invited to give research talks at the Science of Blockchain Conference ‘22 (Stanford) as well as Aptos Labs and Chainlink Research in 2023.
Initial SDK & Developer School
Made initial SDK available for testing in 2023 and launched the first Linera Developer School program, a four-week program for developers to learn Linera’s new multi-chain programming paradigm and build on the SDK.
Additional Seed Funding
Raised an additional $6 million investment round, for a total of $12 million to date in seed funding. The round was led by Borderless Capital, with participation from Laser Digital Ventures, DFG, Cadenza, Block1, Eterna Capital, MH Ventures, Matrixport, L2IV, ArkStream, Flow Traders, GSR Markets, and OWC, with continued support from a16z crypto, Tribe Capital, and Cygni Capital, who participated in the initial seed round.
Devnet

Q1 2024 — We opened Linera’s devnet to the public, giving builders hands-on access to our microchain architecture. Early dApps such as ResPeer—a peer-to-peer publishing platform where authors earn credits to buy digital assets—demonstrate how user‑centric microchains unlock real‑time, parallel execution.
Testnet

Q4 2024 – Q1 2025+ — Starting in late 2024, Linera launched its first public testnet—the initial step in a multi‑phase testnet program leading to mainnet. The first phase, Archimedes, introduced external validators and real‑time microchain communication under shared security. This was followed by Babbage, which expanded support with SDK v0.14, PoW‑enabled microchains, and EVM‑ready headers. Throughout 2025, subsequent updates will bring additional testnets, a web‑wallet browser extension, a token faucet, and user incentives as we continue toward a fully open, production‑ready network.
Built on research
Linera is built on rigorous research. In 2022, our founder Mathieu Baudet gave the Stanford Science of Blockchain Presentation, introducing Linera’s architecture as a generalization of FastPay—an academic protocol co-developed at Facebook’s Novi Research.
Shortly after, we released Linera: Real‑Time Blockchain Infrastructure for Agentic Web3 Applications—a whitepaper outlining how elastic validators and microchains enable real-time performance at Internet scale. Dig deeper to learn more.
