Linera provides secure, real-time Web3 for all

Linera provides secure, real-time Web3 for all

Linera is the first real-time blockchain infrastructure designed to bring the infinite scalability of Web2 to the cryptographic power of Web3—optimizing web3 applications with unprecedented horizontal scaling.

Linera is the first real-time blockchain infrastructure designed to bring the infinite scalability of Web2 to the cryptographic power of Web3—optimizing web3 applications with unprecedented horizontal scaling.

From SSL in the 1990s, to Bitcoin in 2009, to Ethereum in 2015, cryptography has radically evolved. Now, Linera advances beyond today’s L2s by decentralizing even further. Linera's approach, based on microchains, allows users to own their own personal chain of blocks providing greater control over performance and security. Whether proving the origin of your art or switching social platforms, Linera is building a truly user-owned future at the vanguard.

Founded by Mathieu Baudet, a former Meta/Novi engineer and researcher with a PhD in cryptographic protocols. Mathieu Baudet holds a PhD in security protocols and years of experience building distributed systems as an infrastructure engineer at Meta. He worked on an academic protocol called FastPay which laid the foundations for the Linera protocol.

We see a future where Web3 is not only mainstream but is powered by infrastructure that is as agile and scalable as the Internet itself.

About our founder

Mathieu founded Linera with the vision to enable real-time decentralized interactions to scale seamlessly with user demand. In 2021, he founded Linera to do just this. He holds a PhD in cryptographic protocols and has extensive experience building distributed systems.

At Meta, Mathieu contributed to the Libra/Novi project as an early research engineer. At that time he also worked on the FastPay protocol, an academic initiative laying the groundwork for Linera’s architecture. His research, including the Zef protocol, continues to drive performance innovations at Linera.

Founding & Seed Round

Founded in 2021 by Mathieu Baudet, former researcher at Libra/Novi and co-author of the FastPay academic paper. Raised $6 MM in seed fundraising in 2022 led by a16z crypto.

Whitepaper & Research Talks

Released whitepaper in 2022. Invited to give research talks at the Science of Blockchain Conference ‘22 (Stanford) as well as Aptos Labs and Chainlink Research in 2023.

Initial SDK & Developer School

Made initial SDK available for testing in 2023 and launched the first Linera Developer School program, a four-week program for developers to learn Linera’s new multi-chain programming paradigm and build on the SDK.

Additional Seed Funding

Raised an additional $6 million investment round, for a total of $12 million to date in seed funding. The round was led by Borderless Capital, with participation from Laser Digital Ventures, DFG, Cadenza, Block1, Eterna Capital, MH Ventures, Matrixport, L2IV, ArkStream, Flow Traders, GSR Markets, and OWC, with continued support from a16z crypto, Tribe Capital, and Cygni Capital, who participated in the initial seed round.

Devnet

Q1 2024 - Launched our devnet, enabling developers to begin experimenting with Linera’s microchains architecture. We’ve already seen fantastic dApps being built, like ResPeer, a peer-to-peer content publishing platform that allows authors to publish content and earn credits, which can be used to purchase digital assets in the marketplace.

Testnet

Q4 2024 - Next, we’re preparing for the launch of our testnet in late 2024, which will introduce key features such as our first web wallet browser extension and a token faucet, as well as offer incentives for users who actively engage with the network.

Built on research

Linera’s Founder, Mathieu Baudet, gave an invited talk about the Linera protocol at the Science of Blockchain Conference 2022 (SBC’22). The talk explained how to generalize the architecture and the communication model of an academic protocol called FastPay, which was published in 2020 at ACM Advances in Financial Technologies (AFT’20) while Mathieu and his co-authors, Alberto Sonnino and George Danezis, worked at Facebook / Novi Research.
