The Real-Time Blockchain meets the Game of Life.
Today marks the launch of Conway, the third phase of Linera’s testnet. Conway brings ultra-low latency, wallet connectivity out of the box, and a playful points program inspired by John Horton Conway’s famous Game of Life. It’s the biggest step yet toward showing how Linera’s microchains can deliver the speed and reliability that real-time applications demand.
Why “Conway”?
We name each testnet after a mathematician whose ideas fundamentally changed computing. This time it’s John Horton Conway, whose Game of Life revealed how simple rules can create infinite complexity. That idea resonates with Linera whose infrastructure is based on the concept of “microchains”. From those small building blocks, vast networks of applications emerge.
To bring the theme to life, we’ve built a Game of Life application on Linera. You can seed patterns, watch them evolve in real time, and compete for points on a leaderboard. In the future, you’ll be able to connect an AI agent to complete especially complex puzzles. Linera’s local client makes this safe: your agent interacts with code running privately on your machine, and you approve any transaction through your wallet before it goes on-chain.
What’s inside Testnet Conway
Conway introduces meaningful upgrades for both users and developers in terms of end-to-end latency improvements, easy wallet integration and more. With Conway, a new era unlocks for Linera:
Speed you can feel. Blocks finalize in around 200ms, and end-to-end multi-user latency clocks in under a second in our public demos.
Wallets ready at launch. We’ve integrated with Dynamic, to support almost all known popular wallets, including MetaMask, Phantom, and Coinbase.
Better developer tools. SDK 0.15 adds experimental events and a faster faucet powered by sparse clients. The
testnet_conway
branch is live on GitHub.Infrastructure coming next. A lightweight indexer is underway to help explorers and dashboards. EVM experiments continue on

Why it matters
Conway is more than a protocol upgrade; it’s a glimpse of what real-time, agent-driven applications can fel like. For DeFi builders, it means trades that settle with predictable speed and liquidations that trigger exactly when they should. For users, it means smoother onboarding, reliable fees, and the ability to let AI copilots interact on their behalf without giving up control.
How to join
Experiencing Conway is simple:
Visit linera.io/testnetconway
Connect your wallet via Dynamic
Complete Quests to earn Points and climb the leaderboard
To keep the community engaged, we’ll be posting a new Conway-themed social prompt every Monday on X/Twitter. These weekly call-to-actions are a fun way to share your Conway boards, remix the rules, or dive into the legacy of John Horton Conway himself. Join the conversation using the hashtag #MyConwayBoard, and be sure to stay connected via our other channels like Discord and Telegram as the testnet evolves.
Looking ahead
The launch of Conway is just the start. Over the next few weeks, we’ll expand the events API, ship the new block indexer, release more sample apps, and publish tools that make it easier for agents to plug into Linera safely.
About Linera
Linera is the next-generation blockchain for the real-time, agentic Web. Founded by Mathieu Baudet, PhD—a former Meta researcher behind Libra/Diem—and backed by a16z crypto, Linera introduces microchains, a breakthrough architecture enabling elastic scaling, real-time communication, and seamless AI/Web2 integration. With benchmarks at 1M payments/second and sub-second finality, Linera empowers developers to build on-chain applications that scale like cloud-native services, whether they code in Rust or Solidity, with strong guarantees of performance and security.
