Announcing the Winners of the Games on Microchains Developer Challenge

Over the past few weeks, developers from around the world have been building fast, fun, and fully onchain games with Linera’s revolutionary microchains architecture. Today, we’re thrilled to announce the winners of the Games on Microchains Developer Challenge.

More than 250,000 XP was awarded across projects that demonstrated creativity, technical excellence, and innovative use of Linera’s scalable, parallelized chain model. With everything from real-time PvP battles to chain-synced arcade classics, this challenge showed just how dynamic Web3 games can be when powered by microchains.

Here’s a look at the top submissions.

1st Place: DeadKeys by @drphantacy

Play now → | Code →

A fast-paced zombie typing game built on the Linera blockchain.

In DeadKeys, players type rapidly to blast through waves of pixelated zombies before they reach the base. Lose three lives and it’s game over—you’re zombified!

Each player runs on their own microchain, enabling seamless on-chain gameplay. The real innovation shines in PvP mode: using Linera’s real-time cross-chain messaging, players unleash zombie hordes on their opponents in a battle for survival. It’s Web3 gaming, but with bite.

Bonus: DeadKeys earned an extra 10,000 XP for early submission!

2nd Place: Chain Crush by @the_liolik

Play now → | Code →

Inspired by match-3 games, Chain Crush brings the genre onchain through Linera’s microchains. Match tiles, stack combos, and experience a smooth gameplay loop backed by a responsive and scalable blockchain architecture.

3rd Place: Chain Catcher by MzBudi

Play now → | Frontend → | Smart Contracts →

Catch the falling chains and coins to rack up points—just don’t let the viruses, bugs, and hackers get in your way. Chain Catcher is an arcade-style game with a blockchain twist, tracking scores and outcomes onchain while testing your reflexes and strategy.

4th Place: Flappy by @nut1shot

Play now → | Code →

Inspired by the beloved Flappy Bird, this Linera-powered version challenges players to guide a flying dot through obstacles, recording every score and state update in real time on a Linera microchain. It’s a deceptively simple demo of real-time blockchain state visibility.

Bonus: Flappy also earned an extra 10,000 XP for submitting early!

5th Place: Gomoku by bambooman

Code →

Gomoku (Five in a Row) is a multiplayer board game brought to life with Linera’s cross-microchain communication. Players can create or join games in real time, with each move synchronized and validated across smart contracts on the Linera blockchain.

More Games, More Possibilities

A huge thank-you to all the builders who took part in this challenge. The creativity and technical talent on display was incredible, and we’re proud to showcase what’s possible when gaming meets scalable Web3 infrastructure.
